what do you know about this grain?
Okay so I have a four year old paint mare. She has a really hard time putting on weight and keeping it on. I got her around this time last year and she was a little on the thin side. Well we have had the vet out and she has a clean bill of health and fine teeth, I also have her on a worming schedule. I have been feeding her blue seal vintage performance lx which is now Sentinel Performance LS Formula for a while and I'm about to try a new grain; Purina Mills Strategy GX and I was just wondering if anyone has anything good to say about it or a different grain that may work>
Strategy is excellent grain. I am a purina fan myself, have never had much luck with adequate consistent quality with blue seal. Strategy GX is a great formula, you may want to consider omolene 300 growth formula or horseman's edge 10:10 (all by purina) if she really cannot put on weight. what is really important with a horse in this position is the quantity as well as quality of feed. She may have a high metabolism and need more fat in her diet to maintain a healthy weight. Most horses need 2 to 2 1/2 pounds of feed per 100 pounds of body weight, 3/4 of that needs to be hay, pasture and roughage.
